Sitting on the Northern shore of lower Michigan sits the town of Mackinaw. The town resides on the southern shore of Lake Huron looking out at Mackinac Island 7 miles off shore. The town is a cluster of quaint shops that are mostly reliant on the tourist traffic coming to the Lake for Summer vacation. The RV park that we stayed at sits on the shore of Lake Huron with over 500 camping sites... but, abhorring crowds, we tactfully planned to arrive in the middle of September... after the vacationing hordes had departed! If it weren't for the cold and snow, I could live in Mackinaw! The scenery is picturesque, the people are very friendly and generally it's a "kicked back" attitude and environment. Many hotels and motels line the beaches but, we were shocked on the lack of seafood restaurants... on the shores of Lake Michigan, Lake Huron... really?? But, the town offers some really interesting wines from the local wineries!
